MEET THE FUREY’S
Joe and Therese Furey have been married for over forty five years. Together they've walked through addiction, betrayal, grief, and healing, the kind of suffering that breaks most people apart. Somehow, it didn't break them. If anything, it built something between them worth writing a book about, which is exactly what they did.
Joe's story doesn't start in a pulpit. It starts in his own bondage, in a season of his life that felt hopeless, until something shifted. That spiritual awakening became the seed of everything that followed.
He spent his first 6 years in ministry as Senior Chaplain at the Orange County Rescue Mission, sitting with people in their lowest moments, learning what real recovery looks like from the ground up. It was there that he helped develop the foundational holistic spiritual and emotional recovery processes still used in his ministry today.
Then came His Place. For the next 6 years, Joe carried both callings at once, still serving at the mission while stepping into his role as Pastor, building something new without letting go of where he started. Those were long years, but they gave him a perspective few pastors ever get: he'd seen recovery work from the inside of an institution and from the pulpit of a growing church.
From 1996 to 2025, Joe has led His Place, watching it grow from thirty people to hundreds a week, with outreach programs touching lives throughout the county.
All told, Joe has now served as a Pastor for over 35 years. But behind the ministry is a deeply personal story. Joe has buried a son and a daughter. He has made his share of mistakes. And through all of it, he and Therese have found that God is the one steady thing that held when everything else gave way.
That is the story behind their upcoming documentary, The House Still Standing, and behind Still Choosing You, the first book they've written together, on marriage, on staying, on what it actually takes to choose someone again and again through the hardest seasons of life.
Joe hasn't arrived. He's still on the path, still learning. But he's far enough down the road to have found what actually works, and to know it was never him holding on. It was God holding him.
That's what Joe and Therese bring to The Furey Perspective, available for speaking engagements, podcasts, and their books. All of it is about one thing: helping people learn how to live a life worth living.
